إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ ,نَحْمَدُهُ ,وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ , وَنَعوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا ,مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ , وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ , وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
We are starting the new Islamic year. May ALLAH SWT bless the new year.
may ALLAH SWT allow this to be a year of protection , peace security and prosperity for the Muslim world.
Beginning of Islamic year started during the time of Umar Radhi ALLAH anh. Before this time, Quraish being not the global civilzaition would mark the year by major incidents, like year of elephants, etc. Umar Ibn Khattab realizing the need for making a calendar, called the sahaba to discuss. At this time sahaba discussed and decided on the event of Hijra of Rasool ALLAH SAW being the first year of Islamic year. Similarly there was no first/second month. Arabs has 12 months, as we know Moharram, safar, until zilhajj.
ALLAH SWT mentions in the Quran in surah Taubah:
إِنَّ عِدَّةَ ٱلشُّہُورِ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱثۡنَا عَشَرَ شَہۡرً۬ا فِى ڪِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ يَوۡمَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ
Verily, the number of months with Allâh is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allâh on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth
But they were no 1st month, 2nd month and so on. Then again the sahaba decided on Moharram to be the first month. So this is the start of our yearly Hijri calendar.
As a Muslim, rather than making new year’s resolution, we should make resolution with ALLAH SWT every night, asking his forgiveness every night.
