إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ ,نَحْمَدُهُ ,وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ , وَنَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا ,مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ , وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ , وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
My brothers and sisters,
Just like every day, our cloths, ourselves, homes and everything need cleaning , also our actions and our soul needs to be washed and cleaned. We all need cleaning from all the defects, and falsedoings is by doing Istighfar. And Isthighfar is seeking forgiveness from ALLAH Azza wa Jall. Ever after finishing out Ibadat and salah, we say Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah. Here also , we are asking ALLAH’s forgiveness for any short comings in our salah.
Even ALLAH SWT told in Ayaat regarding Hajj:
ثُمَّ أَفِيضُواْ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ أَفَاضَ ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬
Then depart from the place whence all the people depart and ask Allâh for His Forgiveness. Truly, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.
فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُ ۥ كَانَ غَفَّارً۬ا (١٠) يُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّدۡرَارً۬ا (١١) وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٲلٍ۬ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٍ۬ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡہَـٰرً۬ا (١٢)
I said (to them): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; (10) ‘He will send rain to you in abundance; (11) ‘And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.’ ” (12). ALLAH SWT mentioned so many blessings in Surah Nooh for doing istighfar,
Rasool ALLAH SWT said in a Hadees: whomsoever wants to be please by looking at his book on the day of Qiyamah, let him/her make a lot of Istighfar .
Istighfar has many many blessings. One of them is that it puts away the bigger calamities from our lives. ALLAH SWT says in the Quran:
وَمَا ڪَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَأَنتَ فِيہِمۡۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ يَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ
And Allâh would not punish them while you (Muhammad SAW) are amongst them, nor will He punish them while they seek (Allâh’s) Forgiveness
Now Rasool ALLAH SAW is not among us, so the only way for our protection from Azaab, ALLAH will not punish the people if they ‘re making Istighfar.
May ALLAH SWT grant us taufeeq to do as much Istighfar as possible. Rasool ALLAH SWT, he’s guaranteed Jannah, doors of Jannah will open for HIM, he says I make istighfar 100 times a day. May we follow his footsteps and do atleast 100 istighfar every single day.
